New Halaqah, neighbornet need help

Salam and Eid mubarak to everyone.
I just need some advice or topics that I can introduce to my new neighbornet I am setting up in Valley Stream, ny. I am new at being a coordinator and pretty much everyone in the neighbornet is unfamiliar w/ ym. What should I talk about in the first halaqah and how should I set it up (the timings and what not)

Asalamu Alaykum waleed, iA may Allah reward you and bless you for taking up this responsibility and helping to spread his deen.

My name is Shaizan Malik and I am also a NN coordinator for a NN in chicagoland area. I will try to give you some advice that I have used in my NN's.

Since this is going to be your first NN, dont put to much stress on the brothers or throw too much at them. Take the first NN to introduce urself and get to know the other guys and see what they want to learn. Take down some of their ideas and you can use that as ur halaqah topics for the upcoming weeks. Also play some sports or something to keep them interested in the NN. also in the first week you can talk to them about YM and what it is and why you are doing these weekly meetings. let them know that YM is huge and they have brothers all around the country doing this same thing.

In regards to timings, the timings we use are saturdays from 6pm and we go until 10pm. if this work for you guys then try that. but find out what night is best, usually fri night or sat night. and start at a time like asr and end after isha. so there whole evenings are spent with YM and they have no reason to go out and do any other activites expect chillin with the brothers.

Thanks alot bro, and also, some of the guys i know that come to the Masjid have a bad idea of YM, because NN was turned into a sort of class...How should I get them re-intrested in YM and its activites?

well what you can do is first off let them know that Yes YM did turn into a class before but now you are going to fix that iA and make it into something which is fun, with islamic discussions/halaqahs and sports.

JazakAllah bro...I would tell you how the Halaqah went, but we havent had it yet since Im taking SATs in a week...after that InshAllah ima start and Ill post up on how its going.
